Under the Spotlight

Under the Spotlight
I took this picture early this morning (like 5:30am) while working on my “Public” project for my photography class.

Using a reflective photography umbrella and my SB-600 flash, I was able to create a spotlight that seems to come from nowhere directly above me. I think it’s a pretty cool effect.

I would like to try it again using different exposure settings so I could retain detail in the face, for example. Still I think the effect is interesting and I plan on doing it again maybe with a different model; I’m not a huge fan of me being my model, definitely makes staging the scene a bit difficult!

I’m hoping I can use this picture or one like it in one of my future projects for my photo class.
