Cable Car at Lombard Street

This photo captures two of the most photographed things in San Francisco and perhaps in all of California. The infamous San Francisco cable cars from the curviest road in the world, Lombard Street.

Lombard Street is an east–west street in San Francisco, California. It is famous for having a steep, one-block section that consists of eight tight hairpin turns. The street was named after Lombard Street in Philadelphia by San Francisco surveyor, Jasper O’Farrell.

Whenever a friend visits me in San Francisco for the first time, Lombard Street is on the agenda. Sadly to get a great perspective of the curvy street for a photo requires access to one of of the buildings down the hill.
